Shutthefrontdoor is the 10/1 market leader for the Crabbie’s Grand National on April 11 following the publication of the weights.
Jonjo O’Neill’s charge, who won the Irish National last year but has run just six times over fences, has been allotted 11st 2lbs in the Aintree spectacular and – at this stage – looks a likely mount for legendary jockey Tony McCoy.
It will be McCoy’s last appearance in the National as the 19-times champion has announced he is retiring at the end of the current campaign.
And that’s prompted bookies to suggest that Shutthefrontdoor could go off as one of the best backed Grand National favourites in the history of the great race.
Punters are largely holding fire for now though, with the 12/1 and 11/1 going but plenty of 10/1 remaining and it’s 20/1 bar which brings in last year’s runner-up Balthazar King.
The early moves have included support for 2014 fourth Alvarado and The Druids Nephew who were both tipped up at 50/1 by the Racing Post‘s influential Pricewise column at 50/1, with 40/1 now the best on offer about the pair.
